Furniture Placement Tips

Typically, the things that come to mind when designing a room are style, colors, traffic flow, focal points, etc. What many people overlook is the importance of how much space the furniture really requires.
To help prevent the disappointment of buying great pieces that just dont work in the space, weve provided some helpful preparation tips for designing your room:
- Narrow doorways, hallways, and staircases will influence what can fit into a room. Maneuvering through sharp turns will also be a challenge for larger furniture pieces.
- Allow sufficient space in your design for furniture that has moving pieces, such as footrests, swinging doors, and drawers. These pieces require additional space in your design and will affect your walkways.
- Keep in mind the ceiling height and hanging light fixtures of a room when purchasing larger pieces such as canopy beds, entertainment centers and china cabinets.
- When creating areas for conversation, furniture should be close enough to allow people to talk comfortably when seated. These pieces should be facing each other when possible rather than side by side.
- Take into consideration the space needed between the back of dining room chairs and the wall or any other pieces of furniture, so that diners can easily sit down and leave the table.
