Meet your H Designer Kattie McMillon: North Charleston Showroom
What's your favorite Havertys piece?:
The Newbury accent chest in Mediterranean Blue! I find a spot for it in almost all of my Charleston homes. It adds just enough color pop to any room, whether it's used as an entryway table, a sofa table or an oversized nightstand.
How do you find inspiration?:
I find inspiration in everything but I really enjoy looking on Pinterest or Houzz to keep my mind fresh and updated with current trends.
Which do you think is the most important room in the home and why?:
Definitely the living room - that's where people "live" for most of the time! Not only do you and your family spend plenty of time there, but your guests most likely will too. You want it to be inviting, comfortable and beautiful.
What's your favorite trend, and which trend do you wish would disappear?:
My favorite trend right now in incorporating jewel tones. People are starting to go bold with rugs, pillows, and art in brilliant colors. I love it! The trend that I wish would disappear is painting every room a different color. Most updated homes have open layouts, and rooms just flow together much more smoothly when you have the same color on the wall. Instead, you can differentiate the rooms with the way you style and accessorize them.
What made you want to become a designer?:
Since I was a little girl, I've known I wanted to do something creative with my life. When it came time to choose my major for school, I was considering graphic, interior and fashion design. I ultimately decided to go with interior design simply because it seemed to fill my designer needs best. I love going to people's houses and turning them into homes!
